Mohamed Firouz bin Asnan is Member of The Institution of Engineers Malaysia and Senior Vice President-Corporate Strategy at Petroliam Nasional Bhd, aged 52. In his past career he held the position of Head-Sabah Operations at PETRONAS Carigali Sdn. Bhd. and Country Chairman at Petronas Vietnam Co. Ltd. He received an MBA from Massachusetts Institute of Technology and an undergraduate degree from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette.

Professor Dr Jayum is the inaugural chairholder of the Tan Sri Empiang Jabu Research Chair for Dayak Women Studies, Faculty of Human Ecology, Universiti Putra Malaysia. He was appointed for a three-years term beginning 1 November 2019. Before this, he was Professor of Politics and Government at the same institution on a two years contract after retiring in October the previous year after having served UPM for 36 years. He was also formerly the 15th Tun Abdul Razak Chair at the Center for International Studies, and concurrently then Visiting Professor of Political Science in the Department of Political Science, Ohio University, Athens, Ohio, USA (2015-2017).
During his academic career, he has produced not less than 300 publications comprising books, chapters in books, teaching modules and guides, journal articles, conference papers and research reports. He also made regular appearances and gave interviews in various forms of medias addressing social and political issues relating to his area of expertise. During the same period, he also has successfully supervised not less than 67 graduate students who have received their Master and PhD in Politics and Government, comprising nationalities from countries such as Iran, Libya, Nigeria, Indonesia, Bangladesh, Sudan, South Korea, Jordan and Algeria.
Jayum has also held numerous visiting and short-term appointments, for examples at: University of Nottingham Malaysia (2012); Department of Governance, Northern University of Bangladesh (2010); Institute of Public Policy and Management, University of Flinders, Australia (2008); University of Hull, England UK (2004 & 2005); Faculty of Social Sciences, Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (1996/1997).
Among some other positions he has held during his academic career were as follow: member of the National Science and Research Council, Malaysia (Ministry of Science, Technology & Innovation) (2011-2013); committee member to develop curriculum for the National Service Training Program, Ministry of Defense, Malaysia (1997); member of the Judicial Council of the Methodist Church, Malaysia (since 2014); and founding chair and member of expert panel on Malaysia studies, Malaysian Qualification Agency (previously National Accreditation Agency) (since 1997).
