Dato’ Madani Sahari is the CEO of the Malaysia Automotive Robotic and IoT Institute (MARii), a focal point and coordination centre, under the custodian of the Ministry of International Trade and Industry (MITI). MARii oversees the development of the Malaysian automotive industry in all matters, including formulating the national automotive policy, development of the local automotive roadmap and its expansion programmes, managing manpower development, formulating and coordinating automotive related research. He is a highly qualified executive manager with more than 18 years experience in manufacturing and service industries of the automotive sector. Dato’ Madani carries with him vast experience with national and international automotive manufacturers such as Proton, Perodua, Honda, Toyota, Renault, Hyundai, Nissan and General Motors in the areas of strategic collaboration, project development and manufacturing. He graduated from the University of Lorraine (formerly Nancy-Université), France, with a degree in Industrial Technology and is also a Certified Quality Engineer. Dato’ Madani’s knowledge and expertise also encompasses Strategic Planning & Partnership, Corporate Service Development, Business Process Reengineering, Project Management, Marketing, Quality Management, Safety, Health and Environment, Manufacturing and Six Sigma, and has a strong track record of proven ability to turnaround financially or operationally underperforming organizations.
Title: Academic Perspective and Readiness for Sustainable Future: A Case for Renewable Energy
Prof. Dato’ Dr. Kamaruzzaman Sopian obtained his Bachelor degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Wisconsin, Madison in 1985, Master degree in Energy Resources from the University of Pittsburgh in 1989 and Doctorate in Mechanical Engineering from the Dorgan Solar Laboratory, University of Miami in 1997. He is presently the Professor in Renewable Energy at the Department of Mechanical and Material Engineering, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia. He is the Director of the Solar Energy Research Institute, a center of excellence for the research and development in solar energy technology. He has been involved in the field of solar energy for more than twenty years. His main contributions are in solar radiation modeling, alternative material for solar absorber, solar water heating system with integrated storage system, solar desalination, solar cooling, daylighting using solar light pipes, solar assisted drying systems, grid connected photovoltaic system, thin film silicon solar cells, combined photovoltaic thermal or hybrid collector and solar hydrogen production system. He has published over 400 research papers in journals and conferences. He has delivered keynotes speeches at national and international conferences on renewable energy. He is the founding member of the Malaysian Institute of Energy, member of the World Renewable Energy Network based in the United Kingdom and is an associate editor of the Renewable Energy published by Elsevier Ltd. He heads several national subcommittees on renewable energy by the Malaysian government to promote awareness, market enhancement, policy studies and the applications renewable energy. He received the title of Dato’ from Sultan of Perak in 2011.

Prof. Dr. Patrick J. Masset obtained his Bachelor degree in Material Science, Master and Doctorate degrees from Grenoble, France, in addition to his MBA from Paris-Dauphine University. He is currently undergoing habilitation under University Pierre and Marie Curie, for the highest French diploma required for a full professorship. Prof Masset started his career in 1998 as research engineer and later became Head of Research Group at Centre for Innovation Competence Virtuhcon, TU Bergakademie Freiberg, Germany before he moved to Fraunhofer UMSICHT- Sulzbach-Rosenberg, Germany. He is currently the CEO of Techallium Engineering and Consulting in Steinberg am See, Germany.

Prof. Dr. A Rashid B A Aziz is the forum moderator and Director of the Institute of Automotive Research in Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS. He served as the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Research and Innovation) in UTP from 2009 until 2016, headed the Centre for Automotive Research and Electric Mobility since 2002. He has been involved in many government and industry-funded projects with main interests in internal combustion engines, alternative fuels and novel energy generations.
