DECONSTRUCTING TEACHING AND LEARNING IN THE WAKE OF DIGITAL DISRUPTIONS.

DATE : 13 AUGUST 2018

TIME : 200- 400 PM

Whether we are ready or not, whether we want it or not, or whether we like it or not, it is definitely coming! Teaching and learning will vaguely resemble the space and time we experienced as young university students. Learning and teaching are now not bounded by time nor space. Teaching is no longer considered as the most appropriate occupational description of Academics. The term is replaced by other terminologies which bring about other roles such as facilitator, guide, and monitor, to name a few. Teaching is now practiced with the conscious knowledge that students around the world are eager learners but they do not necessarily possess the best attention span. Teaching methods are integrated with digital technologies creating a limitless buffet of teaching components where learning can best take place. However, what will the outlook be for teachers? More so, will teachers be relevant? Or maybe the more appropriate question would be which one of us would be relevant to educational institutions? Would educational institutions continue to confer accredited degree programmes? Would it be replaced by a yet to be named platform which has learnt to leverage on cyber-physical systems and the education business entity? Are Malaysian students ready for these changes? Then, what happens to students who are unconnected? These questions and more will help frame a tripartite view through a short discussion. Panelists representing the academics, government and industry will deconstruct the importance of Education 4.0 on tertiary institutions. They will reinterpret the implications and render an outlook of the Malaysian education scene of the near future as a means to prepare academics, management staff, government, industry and students alike on changes in teaching and learning.
